(Philadelphia 1890 - Parigi 1976)
After studying in New York, Man Ray met Alfred Stieglitz and began to frequent the avant-garde milieu. Together with Marcel Duchamp he became the main exponent of New York Dadaism and promoted many initiatives. His early cubist-inspired works were followed by experiments in various techniques, such as collage, sculptures and assemblage, airbrush painting and photography.
In 1921 he joined the Surrealist group in Paris. Between 1941 and 1951 he lived in Los Angeles, then returned to Paris where he continued to make paintings, sculptures, films and photographs.
